Expanded separation portfolios ( Se ) and Treasurer’s portfolios T( Se ) are a sect of themselves. They arise out of risk-free assets and risky portfolios like other mutual funds. But their distinctive features set them apart from the common lot. This paper puts forth, firstly, a down-to-earth axiomatic that allows a complete formalization of the class of Se portfolios. Secondly, simple separation portfolios are featured and their differences with ( Se ) are highlighted. Next, the category of T( Se ) will be defined and their main properties brought to light.

Occupational Health and Safety Governance (OHSG) is a branch of Corporate Governance by which the board directs and controls labor risks created by their own enterprise. The OHSG concept is relatively new; unlike Occupational Health and Safety Management, which is mostly related to the work of managerial ranks, OHSG deals with principles, the interests of stakeholders, and the work of directors.

Market definition through demand-and-supply estimations, with an application to the Argentine dishwashing detergent industry

Enviado por mivickas el

This paper develops a method for market definition using demand-and-supply estimations. That method is then applied to the Argentine dishwashing detergent industry, using data from the years 2022-2024. The results are compared to the ones obtained using only demand estimations, and the conclusion is that the use of supply price equations generates a considerable improvement in those results.

Contrast leadership and the strategic sparring partner in the C-Suite

Enviado por mivickas el

This article explores the emerging concept of contrast leadership and the role of the strategic sparring partner as a mechanism to mitigate the risks associated with decision-making in the C-suite. It argues that the loneliness at the top and the cognitive biases inherent in power can erode the quality of strategic decisions. Drawing on the academic and management literature, it proposes a conceptual framework for contrast leadership and distinguishes it from other approaches such as executive coaching and traditional consulting.

This paper explores Gino Germani’s further interpretations of Peronism after considering it a particular case of Fascism (see Working Paper N° 371). A visit paid to American universities in late 1956 or early 1957 put him in touch with leading sociologists, Seymour Martin Lipset among them. Lipset’s work on “working-class authoritarianism” made an impact on Germani’s views. By mid-1957 he wrote a paper on “Authoritarianism and the popular classes”, following and discussing Lipset’s views.

Temporal aggregation in political budget cycles

Enviado por mivickas el

While existing cross-country studies on political budget cycles rely on annual data, we build a panel with quarterly and monthly data from Latin American and OECD countries over the 1980-2005 period. Disaggregated data allow to center the electoral year more precisely, and show the effects are concentrated in a three-quarter window around elections. Cycles are statistically significant only in Latin America, but the pattern is similar to OECD countries: the budget surplus/GDP ratio falls in the election period and rises in the post-election period.
